Olivia Nguyen late goals lift ASU soccer to 2-1 win
AZCentral. Com: Olivia Nguyen scored twice late in the second half Sunday night, pushing Arizona State soccer to a 2-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana.
ASU dominated offensively through at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium but could not get a shot past Lions goalie Nadine Maher until 78:31 with Nguyen scoring on an assist by Cori Sullivan.
Overtime seemed likely in the final minute before Nguyen, a junior forward from Tempe, scored unassisted in close off a loose ball with 46 seconds left.
Nguyen also scored Thursday in ASU’s season opening 6-1 win over Central Arkansas.
“Delighted to get another win on a night like tonight,” ASU coach Graham Winkworth said. “I’m excited for our team and happy for Olivia to get the goals she got on a couple of great finishes. I’m really proud of the team and amooking forward to the next one.”
