Warrior Spotlight: Class of 2024 medical student Alexis Nguyen
Detroit : Alexis Nguyen is in her fourth and final year at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. As a medical student, the Houston, Texas, native has served as a Warrior M.D. ambassador, a learning coach for fellow students, a mentor and a tutor. Her favorite part of the Warrior M.D. community is the strong sense of unity and purpose. “We’re a group of dedicated individuals who share a passion for medicine and a drive to make a positive impact,” she said.
Question: What are the most rewarding aspects of being a Warrior M.D. ambassador?
Answer: The most rewarding aspects of being a Warrior M.D. ambassador are guiding aspiring students on their journey and sharing the strengths of our program. Seeing their enthusiasm grow and knowing I’m shaping their decisions is incredibly fulfilling. It’s a perfect blend of my love for medicine, our school and mentoring.

Q: Why did you choose Wayne State University for medical school?
A: Choosing Wayne State University for medical school was an easy decision due to its unique urban health focus, renowned research opportunities and strong clinical training. The chance to work with diverse patient populations in Detroit stood out to me. Additionally, the school’s commitment to community engagement resonated with my values, giving me the opportunity to make a positive impact. As a Warrior M.D. ambassador, I’m thrilled to share my journey and help prospective students understand the incredible advantages Wayne State offers.
Q: What extracurricular activities are you involved with?
A: I’ve been actively involved in a range of extracurricular activities that have enhanced my medical school journey. As a learning coach, I’ve provided personalized tutoring and coaching to students facing challenges. My roles as secretary for Art in Medicine, vice president of Recruitment for Phi Delta Epsilon, and Case Studies president during my second year have let me blend creativity with leadership in the medical field. I’ve also taken on mentoring roles for NAAMA (National Arab American Medical Association) NextGen, Underdocs, Wayne State’s Campuswide Pre-Medical Mentoring Program and the Butterfly Project. These experiences reflect my commitment to personal growth and making a positive impact on aspiring medical professionals and the broader community.
