Beloved teacher from Canada found dead in New Mexico

New Mexico (AP,July 4,2017): Police in New Mexico are investigating after a woman they say is originally from Canada was found dead, along with her husband, inside a vehicle parked on the shoulder of an interstate highway.

The bodies of Ursula Tammy Kokotkiewicz, 32, and Jacob Kokotkiewicz, 31, were found in a blue Dodge pickup last Thursday. Officers spotted the vehicle while responding to an unrelated incident, New Mexico State Police told CBC News.

Officers first thought the vehicle was stranded, media officer Carl Christensen said.

Inside, they found the woman in the front passenger seat with a gunshot wound to the head, according to a police news release.

Her husband was found in the driver’s seat with a handgun between his legs and also appeared to have been shot in the head.

Police say the investigation remains open.

It’s unknown if the woman held Canadian citizenship. CBC News has reached out to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, Global Affairs Canada and the RCMP, but has yet to receive a response.
