New York ( People): Vicky Nguyen is known for her Emmy-winning reporting and expert financial advice, which she doles out during her regular appearances on the Today show. But there’s one thing she forgot during the Thursday, Dec. 26, broadcast: her shoes!
The NBC News Daily anchor and senior consumer investigative correspondent joined weekend co-anchors Laura Jarrett and Peter Alexander for a segments on student loan changes for 2025. And while discussing the story afterwards alongside NBC News’ Jacob Soboroff, Alexander made sure to call out Nguyen’s “Christmas slippers.”
“That’s a good look!” he said, pointing to the oversized yellow slip-ons Nguyen was wearing with her purple suit.
“Oh no noooo,” the mom of three lamented, before explaining what led to the mishap: “This is the day-after-Christmas mom-brain moment where I thought I had the shoes but didn’t have the shoes.”

She went on to thank Today’s director for cropping out her snafu before Alexander pointed it out.
“Listen, they’re very comfortable, I will say,” she joked.
Nguyen’s colleagues all showed her support, including meteorologist Dylan Dreyer. “We all want the cozy feel after Christmas, right?” she said. “We ate too much! We’re just tired!”
And Jarrett made sure to tease Alexander, telling him, “You’re never getting out of the dog house for that one.”
Nguyen has been a staple on Today since joining NBC News in April 2019.
