Van Nguyen thought there was something cooking when his manager told him someone from Manitoba matched one of the Maxmillions selections in the Sept. 17 Lotto Max draw.

After work, he went to check the numbers. He later confirmed it with his manager on his Western Canada Lottery Corporation app, then the veteran of 34 years as a baker called his daughter and took the ticket home to show his wife how much bread they won.
“My daughter was so happy,” Nguyen said. “I’ve been working for so many years, and I’m finally retiring now. I want to give back to some of my former coworkers, too.”
Nguyen called the win “perfect timing.” He bought the ticket at Wellington Supermarket.
