Paris By Night 124: Anh Cho Em Mùa Xuân

Just in time for the Lunar New Year, Trung Tâm Thúy Nga has released their latest instalment of Paris By Night! Paris By Night 124, “Anh Cho Em Mùa Xuân” is of course, a show that celebrates the coming of the Lunar New Year, but most of the show also highlights music by songwriters’ whose lyrics were taken from Vietnamese poetry, a very common writing process in Vietnamese songs. For example, Paris By Night 124 includes songs such as “Hai Sắc Hoa Tigôn” written by Hà Phương, but based on a poem by TTKH; or “Gái Xuân” written by Từ Vũ, but based on a poem by Nguyễn Bính. This secondary theme of music and poetry, or “thơ và nhạc” not only creates a well diversified program, but also allows audiences to hear the beautiful and often complex poetry of these writers.
Paris By Night 124 opens with a group performance of “Anh Cho Em Mùa Xuân” featuring Minh Tuyết, Hạ Vy, Châu Ngọc Hà, Diễm Sương, Hà Thanh Xuân, Hoàng Nhung, Mai Thiên Vân, and Hương Thủy. Paris By Night always includes enjoyable group numbers, and this performance was a wonderful way to open the show. Following this was “Vô Cùng” performed by Như Ý, one of Thúy Nga’s newest singers but already seems to show great potential with her well-rounded voice. Nguyễn Hồng Nhung and Hà Trần display their vocal prowess on “Kiếp Nào Có Yêu Nhau” and “Gọi Em Là Đóa Hoa Sầu” respectively, both songs composed by Phạm Duy. Other highlights from the show include Như Quỳnh’s performance of “Hạnh Phúc Đầu Xuân”, Minh Tuyết’s interpretation of “Xuân Không Màu”, and Thiên Tôn and Ngọc Anh’s duet on “Mắt Buồn” where their vocals complemented each other wonderfully. For those who enjoy more of the upbeat performances, fans will have fun watching Hoàng Mỹ An’s vibrant closing number, “Vui Như Tết” where she donned another colorful hairstyle, this time wearing a light blue bob.
