The Big Freeze! : temperatures plummet to -9C in parts of Britain as freezing air sweeps in from the North Pole

London(Daily News):An ‘Arctic swell’ is expected to brings -9C temperatures to parts of the country tonight as bitterly cold air sweeps in from the North Pole.

Forecasters are warning that Monday night going into Tuesday morning will likely be the coldest of autumn so far, with widespread frost expected across the UK.

Polar air blowing into the country means Britain is currently colder than Helsinki in Finland, with Tulloch Bridge in Scotland recording an overnight temperature of -8.1C.

Meanwhile, the UK is also set to be hit by more flooding this week, with two inches of rain expected to fall starting in the west today, with other parts including flood-hit Yorkshire affected from Thursday.
