Essex Junction, Vermont:On the weekends of March 21, 2015, there were 260 students in 61 schools in the Burlington, Vermont to compete on the annual event of cooking : the Junior Iron Competition .
There were about 1,000 people attended the event.
The Junior Iron Chef, in its eighth year, is a cooking showcase and competition organized by Vermont FEED (Food Education Every Day) and Burlington School Food Project.
Students are encouraged to use local and nutritious ingredients in their dishes, which are conceived and prepared as possible school meals.
Students cooked a colorful and flavorful variety of dishes Saturday, including Vietnamese pho soup, fruit crepes with strawberry puree, pizza, eggrolls, fried polenta, and butternut squash-sweet potato soup.
